Specifications
In order to make my final product effective and successful, there are certain criteria and specifications I must meet in order to do so.
1. The video must be good quality.
Why: It is important that the final video is good quality because if it were to be filmed on a bad and poor quality camera, the film definition would take away from the original meaning and purpose of the video. Although I have not had much experience with filming, I am trying to educate myself as much as I can with videography in order to make this video professional looking and the best it could possibly be. My target audience will be teenagers, and in order to catch their attention and to get them to click on my video, it should be of high quality that they would want to watch it. The footage should not be shaky, and the definition should not be fuzzy. I want the audience to think they are watching a professionally made video.
How: In order to make this video as professional looking as possible, I have previously purchased a camera called Sony a5000 which is known for great image quality and the fact that it comes with 4fps burst shooting, 25-point contrast-detect autofocus system, 1,200-segment exposure meter. When I first purchased this camera, I thought that due to all of these features that it would also film excellently. But despite all these great camera features, the film quality is not at the level I would like it to be. This being said, I am borrowing a better quality camera from a close friend called the Nikon D5300 to ensure high definition and film quality. I will ask several friends to appear and help me film to video in order to make it the best it could possibly be. I do not want the footage to be shaky, therefore I will purchase a tripod to reduce shakiness.
Test: Although there is no quantitative data to be gathered in order to test this final product, I would still like to test this specification in some way to make sure it is effective and successful. In order to do so, I will send the video to a few friends of mine who are interested and specialize in videography to get their opinions and advice on the video, and things I should add, take out, or change.
2. The video must be powerful and effective.
Why: The whole point of my project is to raise awareness about teenage depression and things it can lead to. This being said, my video is not only targeted towards people who are interested in learning about teenage depression, but also actual teenagers who may need some words of encouragement during rough times in their life. In order to make this video powerful, the video footage will be of high quality and the filming will be rationally done. The music in the background will be very sad and gloomy music to set the mood for the video and the targeted audience. The audience should be moved and feel emotional after watching my video, which proves if it is effective. The poem that I will be reading in the background of the video should be effective towards the audience and the words I speak should be powerful. The spoken word poem is just as important as the film definition, and should definitely also be of high quality.
How: In order to make sure this video is powerful and emotional, the music will have to be just right. I have chosen to play the song “River Flows In You” by the composer Yiruma in the background of my video. This song is a heartbreaking tune that a lot of people recognize and get emotional about when they hear it. I feel as if this song is fitting because although it is sad and heartbreaking, it is also beautiful and melodious which represents the pain and beauty of life. The poem that I will write for this video is intended to be relatable to teenagers going through depression, but also encouraging for them not to give up. In order to make my poem moving, not only do I have to write a great poem, but also read it in a dramatic and emotional manner in order to relate to the audience.
Test: In order to test if my video is powerful and effective I will send it to some teenagers I know who have battled with depression in order to see if they relate to the video at all and what they get out of it. My target audience consists of teenagers who have suffered from depression in the past or currently are, and are also my test subjects to measure whether or not my video is effective and if it has helped in any way, shape, or form.
3. The video should be informative.
Why: Although this video is targeted towards teens battling with depression, the video should also be informative. The video should be informative in a sense that whoever watches it, knows what depression feels like and are convinced that it is a real issue amongst teens. In order to further convince and relate to people who have not experienced depression, facts will be displayed to support my claim that teenage depression is a huge issue in the world today. This video should of course be emotional and relatable, but I also want the video to be something that can be showed in schools throughout the city, country, or even the world to show that depression is not something that should be taken lightly. By informative I mean that the person watching the video should come out with a new perspective or piece of information that they learned.
How: As I said before, the poem that will be read will be very emotional and give the viewer a perspective as to what depression is and what it feels like. The footage in the video will be powerful, touching, and dramatic, and between the video clips, there will be slides displaying different facts about teenage depression and things it can lead to. These facts should be surprising statistics that make people rethink the whole concept of teenage depression and convince them that it is a huge issue in society today.
Test: In order to test if I have successfully achieved this specification, I will show my video to several people and ask for feedback. I will ask if they learned anything new from my video and if they think it is informative.
